Terms of Service
Last updated 1 November 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Anant Pathak ("we" or "us"), who runs Hey Around. They apply whenever you use Hey Around, on any device. Our Privacy Policy, Community guidelines and Refund policy are part of these terms, so please read them too.
1. What Hey Around is
Hey Around connects you at random with another adult within about 100 km of you for a live conversation. Every chat starts with voices only. Video turns on only once both of you choose to show your faces, and either of you can turn it off at any time. We don't record or store your conversations.
Hey Around's website also has a song wall at heyaround.in/wall. Anyone can listen to the songs on it, and signed-in adults can record a song of up to 30 seconds and pin it there. Each song comes down after an hour, and its recording is deleted.
2. Who can use Hey Around
- You must be 18 or older. Under Indian law, people under 18 can't enter into this agreement.
- You must give your real date of birth. You also tell us your gender, or choose Prefer not to say. You can set each of these only once.
- You sign in with a Google or Apple account, and you may have only one Hey Around account.
- You can't use Hey Around if we have banned you, or if the law doesn't allow you to.
3. Your account
You're responsible for what happens on your account, so keep your Google or Apple account secure. Tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else is using it. If you gave us a wrong date of birth or gender by mistake, write to us to correct it.
4. What you must not do
You must follow our Community guidelines and Indian law. You must not show, say, share or send anything that:
- belongs to someone else and that you have no right to share;
- is obscene, pornographic or paedophilic, or invades anyone's privacy, including their bodily privacy;
- insults or harasses anyone because of their gender, or is racially or ethnically objectionable;
- relates to or encourages money laundering or gambling, or promotes enmity between groups on grounds of religion or caste with intent to incite violence;
- is harmful to children;
- infringes a patent, trademark, copyright or any other proprietary right;
- deceives or misleads anyone about where a message came from, or knowingly passes on information that is false or misleading;
- impersonates another person, including with a deepfake or any other synthetic or altered video or voice;
- threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security or sovereignty of India, its friendly relations with other countries, or public order, incites any cognisable offence, prevents the investigation of any offence, or insults another nation;
- contains a virus or any other code meant to interrupt, destroy or limit any computer or service;
- is, or advertises or promotes, an online game that harms users or that Indian law doesn't permit, or a platform offering such a game; or
- breaks any law in force in India.
You also must not:
- record, screenshot, stream or share anyone's voice or video without their permission;
- pin anyone else's recording on the song wall, or a recording of anyone who didn't agree to it;
- ask anyone for money, sell anything, or promote any product, service or website;
- share anyone's personal details, such as a phone number or address;
- help anyone under 18 use Hey Around;
- use bots or scripts on Hey Around, or try to get around its safety checks, such as the age check or the nudity check; or
- try to break, overload or get unauthorised access to Hey Around.
5. Faces, the nudity check and staying safe
Faces show only after both of you tap Show my face. While they're on, Hey Around checks the other person's video for nudity on your own device. Their video stays blurred until it passes, and blurs again if it looks unsafe. If it looks clearly explicit, Hey Around ends the chat and reports that person automatically. The check is automated and can make mistakes, so it can't promise you won't see something unwanted. End any chat you're not comfortable with by tapping Next or Stop, and use Report.
You talk to strangers on Hey Around. We don't check who people are, and people state their own age. Don't share personal details, don't agree to meet someone you don't know somewhere private, and never send anyone money. If you're in danger, call 112. To report a cybercrime, call 1930 or go to cybercrime.gov.in.
6. Reports, suspensions and bans
Tap Report during a chat if someone breaks these terms. The chat ends, and the two of you are never matched again. If three different people report an account within 24 hours, we suspend it for 7 days automatically. We may also warn, suspend or permanently ban an account, or remove its access to Hey Around, when we believe it broke these terms or the law or put someone at risk. You can appeal through our Grievance Officer.
Anyone can report a song on the song wall. A song that three different people report comes down straight away, and reports from signed-in people count towards suspending the account that pinned it, as above. We may also take a song down ourselves when we believe it breaks these terms or the law.
Breaking these terms can also break Indian law, such as the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, and lead to penalties under it. We must report some offences to the authorities, including any sign of child sexual abuse, and we share information with courts and government agencies when the law requires it. Hey Around reminds everyone of this at least once every three months.
7. Skip the queue
When Hey Around is full, you wait in a queue. Skip the queue puts you at the front of it for one hour from when your payment is confirmed. It doesn't promise a match, a chat of any length, or that Hey Around stays open for the whole hour. We show the full price, including any taxes, before you pay, and you buy only by tapping to pay yourself. Our payment partner, Razorpay, handles the payment. Refunds follow our Refund policy. Skip the queue isn't sold in the iOS app.
8. Your voice and video
Your voice and video are yours. In chats, you let us carry them to the person you're talking to and nothing more: we don't record them, store them or use them for anything else. Don't send anything you don't have the right to share.
Songs you pin on the song wall are yours too. When you pin one, you let us store it and play it to anyone who visits the song wall until it comes down, an hour at most, and nothing more. Pin only what you have the right to share. You're responsible for what you pin, including if it uses someone else's words or music.
9. Hey Around itself
Hey Around's name, design and software belong to us. You may use Hey Around only as these terms allow, and you may not copy, change, sell or rent it.
We work to keep Hey Around running and safe, but we can't promise it will always be available, that you'll find a match, or that everyone you meet will follow these terms. We may change, pause or stop Hey Around or any part of it.
10. Liability
We provide Hey Around as it is. As far as Indian law allows, we aren't liable for what other people say or do on Hey Around, or for any indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you for anything to do with Hey Around is ₹1,000 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before your claim, whichever is more. Nothing in these terms takes away a right you have under Indian consumer law that can't be taken away.
You agree to make good any loss we suffer because you broke these terms or the law.
11. Leaving Hey Around
You can stop using Hey Around at any time. To delete your account, go to Settings > Delete account in the iOS app, or write to [email protected] from the email address you sign in with. If you hid your email with Sign in with Apple, write from any address and include the one Apple made for Hey Around. We may suspend or end your account as section 6 describes.
12. Changes to these terms
When we change these terms, we update the date at the top. If a change matters to you, Hey Around asks you to agree again before your next chat.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. If a dispute comes up, please contact us first so we can try to sort it out. Otherwise, the courts at Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh have jurisdiction, and you keep your right to go to a consumer commission under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
