Random voice chat with strangers
Hey Around is a free random voice chat for adults. Tap Start talking and you're matched with someone new for a live conversation, with voices only. Your camera stays off, and you see each other's faces only if both of you choose to. It works in the browser on your phone or computer, with nothing to install.
Why start with voices
Most random video chats put your face on screen the second you connect. That's a lot to ask with someone you met a moment ago, and it's why so many chats end in a skip before anyone has said hello.
A voice tells you plenty: whether someone is friendly, funny, bored or in a hurry. Starting there means you have a real conversation first, then decide together whether you'd like to see each other. Plenty of good chats never need faces at all.
How a voice chat works
- Sign in once. Continue with Google, then enter your date of birth. Hey Around is for people 18 and older.
- Allow the microphone. Your browser asks the first time. You don't need the camera to talk.
- Tap Start talking. You're matched at random with someone who's online, and you hear each other straight away.
- Break the ice. You both see the same question on a note between you, like "Chai or coffee, and from where?" Tap Another question for a new one.
- Next, or stop. Tap Next to meet someone else, or Stop when you're done.
Faces, only if you both want
Either of you can tap Show my face, but your video isn't sent until the other person taps it too, so nobody is ever on camera alone. Tap Hide my face at any time to go back to voices, which turns faces off for both of you.
When faces are on, the other person's video stays blurred until your own browser has checked it for nudity, and the check keeps running for as long as faces are on.
Tips for a good voice chat
- Say hello first. A quick "Hi, where are you calling from?" beats waiting for the other person.
- Use the question. The note between you is there so neither of you has to think of an opener.
- Find a quiet spot. Earphones with a mic cut out echo and background noise.
- Talk in any language. It's your voice, so Hindi, English, Tamil or anything else you both speak works.
- Move on kindly. If it isn't clicking, a friendly bye and Next is fine.
Staying safe
You don't need to share your name, number or face to talk, and it's best not to share them with someone you've just met. Hey Around doesn't record or store your voice. Calls go directly between the two browsers, through a relay server only when a network needs one.
If someone is rude, creepy or breaks the community guidelines, tap Report. The call ends straight away and you won't be matched with them again. If three different people report someone within 24 hours, their account is suspended for 7 days.

Questions
Is random voice chat on Hey Around free?
Yes. Talking to people on Hey Around is free, and there's nothing to download.
Do I need a camera?
No, only a microphone. Every chat starts with voices only, and the camera comes on only if you choose to show your face and the other person does too.
Can anyone hear me before the chat starts?
No. Nobody hears you until you're matched and the call connects, and nobody sees you unless you both tap Show my face.
Does a voice chat work on mobile data?
Yes. Voice uses much less data than video, so a voice chat works well on mobile data. Showing faces uses more.
Who will I talk to?
Someone new, picked at random from the people online at the same time as you. Everyone you talk to has signed in and given a date of birth that makes them 18 or older.
